Louis’ Little Black Book-Vancity Bride

Louis’ Little Black Book-Vancity Bride

This week we’re featuring a different type of Vancouver vendor, she’s a blogger who helps brides on a budget choose vendors that won’t break the bank.  Jeannine Avelino of Vancity Bride is our latest and greatest Little Black Book Vendor. We met Jeannine a while back in 2012 when she came to us looking for advise on how to create extraordinary menus at affordable prices. We’ve since directed a lot of our Vancouver brides to her website for advice and she’s done the same for us. Jeannine features a new Vancity Vendor each Friday, so check out her blog at www.vancitybride.com for inspiration and ideas on how to plan the wedding of your dreams!

Introduce yourself and your company

My name is Jeannine Avelino. I am the owner and blogger behind Vancity Bride (https://www.vancitybride.com) – A blog that caters to Vancouver’s budget brides. I write articles that give advice, inspiration and recommendations on how to plan a wedding without breaking the bank.

How did you get started? What have been some challenges & breakthroughs?

This all started after I planned my own budget wedding. There was a lack in local resources for brides like me so I decided to do something about it. It’s been going strong for over 3 years now and I still love every minute of it. I work on it part time (I work full time as a video editor for a TV station) and what keeps me going is all the great feedback I get from brides… knowing that I’ve made a difference in their lives. I also cherish the friends I’ve made in the industry and admire them for all the hard work that they do… I have a lot of respect for entrepreneurs and small businesses. I’m no longer married, and to tell you the truth, it was tough for a while to be going through that while being in the wedding industry but I’ve overcome it and what’s more important to me is that I am helping people… that is my motivation to keep going.

What types of events/blog do you do?

I blog about anything wedding-related that would help my target audience… brides on a budget. I will write about anything that will save them money, alert them to upcoming wedding shows and sales, as well as provide my own opinions drawn from past experiences in order to give them another perspective on things. I also feature budget-friendly wedding vendors who are amazing at their job but at reasonable rates.

What is your most popular product/feature?

I think my Vancity Vendor features are quite popular. They are essentially my featured vendors who I deem to be great candidates for budget brides to hire. It opens their eyes to people who they may not have heard of but are still quite good at their job. All my Vancity Vendors go through a reference check and only approved ones get to be published. I’ve heard from many brides (and vendors too) that tell me they have had a pleasure working with those I’ve recommended.

What has been your favorite (or most rewarding, most unique) event to work on to date?

Any time I hear from a bride or vendor telling me how much they benefited from an article I wrote or a vendor I’ve connected them with, that is most rewarding. My purpose was served :)

What is one tip that you would give a client when they are choosing their vendors (photographers, planners, designers, etc)?

Research, research, research! Hire someone whom you will enjoy working with, in addition to having the skills you are looking for. It makes a huge difference if you enjoy the company of the person you hire… and be open about all your thoughts, even if it’s negative. That way you are both on the same page.

What is your favorite food to eat at events?

I like a lot of food but seafood always gets me excited. Tuna tataki, oysters, crab cakes, anything! I also love dessert, but who doesn’t? :P
