Louis’ Little Black Book – Fleur de Lis

Louis’ Little Black Book

featuring Vancouver’s best & brightest event professionals who share our dedication to excellence

We recently sat down with one of our regular java (and Cinnamon Bun) lovers in our bistro, principal planner of Fleur de Lis Events, Nargess Tabrizy Shokrani. We were toasting a very successful event we’d planned and catered together at the Vancouver Art Gallery. As we reminisced about the elegant event, we decided that it only seemed logical to feature Nargess in our next LLBB blog. After all, she did earn herself the spot.

Nargess and Louis go way back – they’ve known each other since Nargess was just sweet 16, having lived very close together and shared the same trainer. We love that she shares in our love of fine food and has a true passion and dedication to her work and her young family too. Visits from Nargess often include her two young (and adorable) sons.

Introduce yourself and your company
My name is Nargess Tabrizy and I am the Founder and Principle Planner at Fleur de Lis Events, a boutique style Event Planning & Design company.

How did you get started?
I can’t really pinpoint the exact start date, as planning events is something I have always done and have loved to do, for as long as I can recall. A few years back, I decided to take the plunge and make it official, and have truly enjoyed every single event I have been a part of.

I genuinely believe if you follow your heart, you can’t go wrong. I have a science background but planning, styling, and design are the very essence of who I am, and what I love to do.

What types of events do you do?
Weddings, special occasion soirées, and corporate events.

What is your most popular product/feature?
We create customized Design Boards for each of our clients based on their vision. We use them as a template in creating the perfect event that is tailored to their unique style, both as individual and as a couple. It ensures that the client and my team are on the same page and that their dream event is being understood and executed upon.

What has been your favourite event to work on to date?
Working so closely with all of our couples makes every event truly memorable, but I do have a few favorites. Last year, a destination wedding that took place south of the boarder quickly became a personal favourite of mine. We married many different elements to create the perfect backdrop for this multicultural couple. It was a true union of not only two families, but two very different cultures which made for an extraordinary event.

A very recent event at the Vancouver Art Gallery is also one I’ll cherish for years. The couple shared an incredible love along with an unsurpassed taste for elegance and luxury. This event raised the bar, and really allowed me to tap into my creative side. I loved the challenge of producing a unique and lavish evening filled with elegant details and refined luxury.

What advice would you give to a bride to be when picking her planner (or any other vendor)?
Do your research, narrow the list down to a few (2-3) vendors, and then arrange to meet face-to-face. This way you have already done your homework and you know what their products and / or services are. More importantly, now you can spend your (face-to-face) meeting time wisely, and really get to know the person you may potentially be hiring!

In the end, follow your heart, as photographers, florists, designers, and planners are people you’ll be spending a whole lot of time with! It’s best to pick a vendor with whom you feel a connection, as wedding planning is an intimate process.

What is your favourite food to eat at events?
I am a big fan of eating local, and really love when chefs showcase menus that include locally grown vegetables & meats. My personal favorites include Caprese Salad, Cornish Hen, and Sirloin Steak! And anything made by Chef Louis, of course!
