Rare Finds Gala – Vichyssoise Recipe
by Louis Gervais / In Events, News & Media, Recipes
At the beginning of every year, the LGFF team gathers together to determine our sponsorship budget. In the past, we’ve support high school fundraisers, community events such as the Harmony Arts Festival and Hollyburn Society’s Hockey Heroes Shoot Out, and the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation’s Gala. We believe it is important to give back to our community – it does the heart some good and we have fun too!

Bringing ideas to the table was easy as there are so many great causes that we’d like to support. One special event that we wanted to participate in was proposed to us by our good friend Nargess, Principal Planner of Fleur de Lis Events. It was the Rare Finds Gala organized by the Rare Disease Foundation and we’re very glad got involved!

The event was beautiful! Hosted at VanDusen Botanical Gardens, the gala featured amazing food, drinks, and entertainment. With the help of 13 Executive Chefs from top Vancouver hotels and catering companies, talented Pastry Chefs, and three expert mixologists from around the city, the Gala brought together over 300 people for a night of fundraising and eating. Each Chef was to come up with a signature Amuse Bouche for which guests were to vote for their favourite. A tonne of fun and a great way to get people interacting through out the night. The Collective You also provided beautiful black and white portraitures for guests and musical entertainment was provided by one young, very talented violinist.

The event raised over $118,000 for the Rare Disease Foundation. A rare disease is defined as a condition affecting less than 1 in 2000 people. There are more than 7000 diagnosed rare diseases and many more undiagnosed diseases. Nearly three million Canadians have a rare disease. The foundation provides an innovative approach of rare disease care that guides research and provides support to parents of sick children. This changes the way that rare diseases are managed.

We were so grateful and honoured to be part of this great cause and proud of the entire organizing team for the great job they did. Since we’re In the spirit of giving, we thought we’d also give you our recipe for our delicious chilled Vichysoisse soup that we presented! Try making this at home for your friends and family, chilled on a hot summers day, or hot to keep you cozy during those winter months.
